Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has expressed his country’s willingness to enhance cooperation with Libya, during a meeting with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, in Minsk on 18 February, according to BelTA news agency.

“Mr. Haftar, I want you to feel at home here and to consider us your friends,” Lukashenko stated. He highlighted his familiarity with Libya’s situation and reaffirmed Belarus’ commitment to supporting the country.

Lukashenko also recalled his past visits to Libya, acknowledging the changes it has undergone but stressing Belarus’ readiness to assist.

The Belarusian leader assured that all agreements reached during Haftar’s visit would be implemented as planned. He reiterated Belarus’ commitment to strengthening ties and welcomed Haftar and his delegation.

For his part, Haftar expressed his appreciation for the invitation, stating, “We are very glad to be here. Thank you very much for the invitation. We are willing to cooperate.”

Haftar arrived in Belarus a day prior to the meeting, with his visit focusing on humanitarian, social, and economic cooperation between Libya and Belarus. The discussions are expected to lay the groundwork for future collaboration across multiple sectors.
