Libya has officially submitted a request to host the headquarters of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) in Benghazi, according to Abdullah Bliheg, spokesperson for the House of Representatives.
The announcement came following the participation of House member Abdul Salam Nasia in the 37th extraordinary session of the AIPU Executive Committee on Sunday. Bliheg shared the update via his official Facebook page on Monday.
During the meeting, members reviewed the report of the special committee assigned to amend the union’s charter. After extensive discussions, they agreed on modifications to several articles. The amendments aim to enhance the union’s operational framework and strengthen parliamentary cooperation among Arab nations.
Additionally, the members reached a consensus on holding the 38th AIPU session in Algeria during the first half of May 2025. They also approved the final financial report for the 2024 budget, marking a key administrative milestone for the organisation.
Libya’s bid to host the AIPU headquarters in Benghazi aligns with its broader efforts to boost diplomatic and legislative engagement in the Arab world. If approved, this move would mark a significant step in Libya’s reintegration into regional parliamentary affairs.
