On Wednesday, Libyan National Army (LNA) Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar held a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace.
The visit comes amid ongoing efforts to stabilize Libya and advance the stalled political process.
During the meeting, Haftar and Macron discussed the latest developments in Libya, focusing on the need to support the United Nations mission in its efforts to resolve the crisis.
They also reviewed regional security challenges and explored ways to enhance cooperation between Libya and France.
President Macron recognized Haftar’s role in Libya’s political landscape, praising the Libyan National Army (LNA) for its efforts in maintaining security and stability.
France has been actively engaged in Libya, advocating for a unified government and the long-awaited presidential and parliamentary elections.
Libya has been divided since the 2011 uprising that led to the fall of Muammar Gaddafi. Despite multiple international mediation efforts, the country remains fragmented between rival governments and armed factions.
The LNA, under Haftar’s leadership, has played a significant role in securing Libya’s borders, fighting terrorism, and restoring order in the east and south.
However, political divisions and security challenges continue to delay progress toward national reconciliation and elections.
