The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has provided essential humanitarian aid to more than 1,700 refugees in Libya’s southern municipalities of Sebha, Brak Al-Shati, and Ubari. The relief efforts, carried out last week, aimed to support the most vulnerable communities in the region.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, UNHCR’s Libya office confirmed that the aid distribution was conducted in coordination with the Libyan Relief Agency. The assistance included blankets, mattresses, kitchen utensils, solar lamps, hygiene kits, baby supplies, water containers, and plastic sheets to improve living conditions for recipients.

Additionally, the aid initiative extended support to 500 Libyan host community members in the same areas. This approach reflects UNHCR’s commitment to addressing the needs of both refugees and displaced Libyans affected by ongoing instability.

Meanwhile, the Libyan Red Crescent’s Derna branch announced on Tuesday the distribution of humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese community and low-income families in the city. The initiative, part of efforts to alleviate hardships during Ramadan, focused on providing essential food supplies, baby formula, and diapers.

According to a statement published on the organisation’s Facebook page, the relief effort was managed by the Um Al-Razam division of the Derna Red Crescent. Volunteers oversaw the aid distribution to ensure that struggling families received the necessary supplies.

The humanitarian situation in Libya remains dire, particularly in the south, where refugees and displaced persons continue to face harsh conditions. Aid agencies stress the need for sustained international support to prevent further deterioration of living standards in vulnerable communities.
