The Libyan Minister of Labour and Rehabilitation in the Government of National Unity (GNU), Ali Al-Abed, held a meeting on Monday with Liu Jian, the Chargé d’Affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Libya. The discussions focused on reactivating the agreement to establish the Libyan-Chinese Training Centre in Benghazi.
The meeting took place at the ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli, where both officials explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in employment, training, and professional development.
According to a statement published by the Ministry of Labour and Rehabilitation, the talks centred on expediting the return of Chinese companies to Libya. These firms are expected to resume work on suspended development projects, which are anticipated to support Libya’s national economy and create new job opportunities.
The discussions also covered collaboration in modern technology and digital transformation. Both sides agreed on the importance of advancing Libya’s digital infrastructure to improve the business environment and align with global trends.
Additionally, the two parties discussed drafting a memorandum of understanding between Libya and China, focusing on vocational training, employment, and the regulation of labour mobility between the two countries.
A key point on the agenda was the activation of the agreement to establish the Libyan-Chinese Vocational Training Centre in Benghazi. The centre aims to train and qualify Libyan workers in technical fields according to international standards. The project is expected to help close the skills gap and enhance the capabilities of Libya’s labour market.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination in order to achieve shared goals that support Libya’s development. Liu Jian expressed optimism about making concrete progress, highlighting the depth of relations between Libya and China.
