Kuwait’s Public Authority for Minors Affairs (PAMA) has signed a special agreement with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support the education of Sudanese refugee children in Libya. The agreement, signed on Wednesday, was attended by PAMA Acting Director Dalal Al-Nouri and UNICEF Gulf Area Representative, Al-Tayeb Adam.

According to Kuwait’s Al-Rai newspaper, this initiative comes in response to directives from Kuwait’s senior leadership to assist the Sudanese people, who have been suffering from the ongoing civil conflict that erupted in 2023. Kuwait’s commitment, through PAMA, focuses on humanitarian aid with particular attention to children and their vulnerable families.

The agreement aims to provide direct educational support for 2,500 Sudanese refugee children currently living in Libya. Under the terms of the deal, UNICEF will install and equip ready-made classrooms to address urgent educational needs. The project will be implemented under the supervision of Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ensuring full coordination and accountability.

Dalal Al-Nouri highlighted that this project forms part of a wider range of humanitarian initiatives led by PAMA, both locally and internationally. She emphasised that education remains a fundamental human right and a vital tool for the advancement of societies. “Through education, nations thrive and communities are empowered,” Al-Nouri stated during the signing ceremony.

The Sudanese civil war has displaced thousands, forcing many to flee to neighbouring countries, including Libya. With this partnership, Kuwait reinforces its role as a key supporter of humanitarian and relief efforts in the region, especially in times of crisis.

The UNICEF representative, Al-Tayeb Adam, praised Kuwait’s ongoing commitment to child welfare and education, noting that the new initiative will offer much-needed hope and stability for Sudanese refugee children in Libya.
