UN Launches Youth Workshop to Address Social Violence in Libya

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has announced the opening of registration for a youth workshop focused on reducing community violence. Scheduled to take place in Tripoli on Sunday, April 6, 2025, the workshop is part of UNSMIL’s ongoing youth initiative, “YouEngage,” which aims to empower young Libyans to take a more active role in shaping peaceful and resilient communities.

The workshop is designed for young men and women between the ages of 18 and 35 who live in Tripoli or the surrounding areas. Its main goal is to raise awareness about the destructive effects of community-level violence, particularly on youth, and to explore practical approaches to prevent it. It will also encourage dialogue, promote civic engagement, and strengthen the role of local communities in addressing underlying social tensions.

Participation is limited to just 25 individuals, reflecting the workshop’s interactive and focused format. While registration is now open, applying does not automatically guarantee a spot. Selected participants will be contacted directly by the organizers to confirm attendance and receive further details.

This workshop is part of a larger series of training sessions and youth-focused events that UNSMIL will be organizing in the coming weeks. These activities aim to provide space for young Libyans to discuss critical issues, develop leadership skills, and contribute to peacebuilding efforts at the local level.

With Libya continuing its path toward recovery and reconciliation, engaging youth is seen as essential. Programs like “YouEngage” are part of a broader strategy to invest in the next generation of leaders, build trust within communities, and reduce the social fragmentation caused by years of instability and conflict.
