Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar expressed renewed optimism for Libya’s future during a visit to Derna, where he inaugurated a new administrative complex.
Speaking at a public iftar gathering, he praised the resilience of Derna’s people and reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding the city and surrounding areas, which were devastated by Storm Daniel in 2023.
“We are optimistic and confident that what lies ahead will be better—thanks to the strong will that makes miracles possible and the determination to turn dreams into reality,” Haftar said in his address.
He vowed to continue dedicating all available resources to support Derna and the broader region, highlighting ongoing efforts to restore infrastructure, public services, and economic stability.
“As always, we will not let you down. We are fully committed to standing by Derna and all our people,” he said.
Haftar emphasized that reconstruction is progressing rapidly, driven by the efforts of dedicated citizens and local experts. “We are racing against time, relying on the hard work of your honorable sons to rebuild Derna and nearby towns,” he said, describing Derna’s transformation as a national achievement.
He noted that the city is witnessing real change and entering a new chapter—one defined by peace, growth, and stability. “Derna is returning better than ever.
It is steadily moving toward a brighter, modern future,” he added.
Haftar also confirmed he is personally monitoring the pace and quality of reconstruction, and responding to calls from residents who have longed to see their city revived.
“The voices of the people in Derna have been heard. Their dreams are no longer distant—they are becoming reality,” he said.
He concluded by framing Derna as a symbol of Libya’s resilience and rebirth: “This city has stood witness to history—in times of war against terrorism and now in its period of reconstruction.
Today, Derna represents life, hope, culture, leadership, and diversity.”
