Authorities in the Libyan town of Al-Asbi’ah have reported eight new mysterious fires that erupted in residential homes overnight, deepening concerns over a string of unexplained blazes that have persisted since February.

In a statement on Monday, Al-Asbi’ah Municipality confirmed that the fires occurred between late Sunday evening and Monday morning, with no clear explanation yet identified for the recurring incidents.

“These fires remain a mystery, as the circumstances surrounding them have not yet been determined,” the municipality said, noting that the fires appear to follow no discernible pattern or cause.

Speaking to local media, Al-Siddiq Al-Maqtouf, media spokesperson and member of the town’s Crisis Committee, said six of the affected houses had previously experienced similar fires, while two others were reported as first-time cases.

The new wave of incidents follows a prior announcement from the municipality revealing that 27 homes were affected by renewed fires over Friday and Saturday, including 10 homes that had not previously been targeted.

The unusual recurrence of residential fires — many hitting the same homes multiple times — has sparked growing anxiety among residents, prompting intensified calls for answers. Investigators continue to examine all possibilities, including electrical faults, arson, or other unidentified causes.

Despite ongoing efforts by the Crisis Committee and emergency services, no definitive explanation has been provided, leaving the town gripped by uncertainty.
