A delegation from Libya’s House of Representatives is participating in the 2026 Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Parliamentary Forum, held at United Nations Headquarters in New York as part of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
The Libyan delegation is headed by First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, who also serves as head of Libya’s delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union. He is joined by Member of Parliament Rabia Abu Ras, a member of the Libyan parliamentary delegation to the IPU.
The forum brings together parliamentarians from around the world to discuss the role of legislative institutions in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthening cooperation between national parliaments and the United Nations.
Participants are exchanging views on how parliaments can contribute to implementing sustainable development policies, strengthening legislative oversight, and ensuring governments fulfill their commitments under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The annual IPU Parliamentary Forum serves as one of the principal platforms for dialogue between lawmakers and the United Nations, providing an opportunity for parliamentarians to contribute directly to discussions on global development priorities and international cooperation.
This year’s forum is being held alongside the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the United Nations’ main platform for reviewing global progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union works with national legislatures across the world to promote democracy, strengthen parliamentary institutions, and encourage international cooperation on issues ranging from sustainable development and climate action to education, public health, and economic growth.
