US Warns Against Continued Political Paralysis in Libya

Massad Boulos, senior adviser to President Donald Trump on Middle East affairs, has revealed that the US is working on a new, comprehensive political initiative aimed at resolving Libya’s long-standing crisis.

He said the proposal will be built on a practical and balanced approach that prioritizes restoring political and security stability throughout the country.

Boulos explained that the proposed roadmap will emphasize broad national participation, ensuring that all Libyan actors are included in the dialogue without exclusion.

The objective, he added, is to bring Libya’s rival factions together around a unified negotiation framework that can relaunch the stalled political process.

He stressed that the US is committed to ending the ongoing political paralysis, which he described as one of the most serious threats facing Libya’s future. Boulos made it clear that Washington does not intend to allow the current stalemate to persist.

According to Boulos, the US initiative reflects a genuine interest in the stability and sovereignty of Libya, and in the long-term well-being of its people. He emphasized that the success of any solution depends on Libyan ownership and inclusion, rather than externally imposed agendas.

Though the details of the proposal have not yet been made public, the comments suggest a shift in US engagement toward a more inclusive and hands-on role in addressing Libya’s fragmentation. The new approach appears to focus on gathering all Libyan stakeholders around the table, establishing common ground, and restoring momentum to a political process that has been largely frozen.

The initiative is expected to involve consultation with key international and regional actors but will remain centered on Libyan sovereignty, aiming to empower national institutions and avoid dependence on foreign solutions.

Boulos concluded by reaffirming that the time for passive observation has ended, and that the US will act to support efforts that can help Libyans reclaim control over their own political future.
