The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has expressed deep concern over the violent incidents that occurred during Monday’s playoff match between Al-Ahly Tripoli and Al-Swehli. The clashes resulted in injuries among fans and damage to surrounding property near the stadium.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, the LFF conveyed full solidarity with those injured and wished them a speedy recovery. The federation also firmly rejected all forms of violence, stressing that such behaviour damages the image of Libyan football and endangers the safety of fans, players, and officials.

“The safety of supporters, players, and referees remains our top priority,” the LFF stated. “We will not hesitate to implement necessary measures to ensure matches are held in a safe and orderly environment.”

The statement came after disturbing footage circulated on social media showing unrest in the stadium’s vicinity following the conclusion of the match, which is part of the decisive six-team round of the Libyan Premier League.

The LFF also praised the stance of clubs and supporters who denounced the violence and called for calm. “We value the solidarity and responsible conduct shown by many clubs and fans,” the statement continued. “We call on all members of the football community to work together to elevate the sport and develop it across the country.”

This incident adds to growing concerns about security at football matches in Libya, where tensions often run high. The federation has pledged to coordinate with security authorities and club officials to prevent similar events in the future.

The match itself was overshadowed by the disturbances, prompting renewed debate about the role of law enforcement and the need for enhanced safety measures during major sporting events in the country.
