Libya’s Ambassador to Port Sudan, Fawzi Abdulrahim Boumriz, attended a diplomatic meeting hosted by UN Special Envoy to Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, alongside ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Sudan.

The gathering, held at the United Nations Mission headquarters in Port Sudan, aimed to boost consultations among international and regional actors in a bid to de-escalate tensions and promote the protection of civilians amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

According to a statement issued by the Libyan Embassy, Ambassador Boumriz’s participation reflects Libya’s commitment to supporting dialogue and peaceful solutions in the region. The meeting comes at a critical time as Sudan continues to grapple with political instability and violence that have displaced thousands and endangered the fragile social fabric of the country.

The UN envoy urged the diplomatic community to press for an immediate cessation of hostilities and to facilitate a rapid and serious political dialogue among Sudanese parties. The ultimate goal, he said, is to restore peace and stability through a comprehensive political process that includes all stakeholders.

Ambassador Boumriz echoed the call, highlighting the importance of unified international efforts to end the conflict and reaffirming Libya’s support for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stressed that the resumption of peaceful dialogue is essential to protect civilians and create the conditions for sustainable development and reconciliation.

Libya’s involvement in these discussions underscores Tripoli’s desire to play a constructive role in regional peacebuilding, particularly as its own post-conflict transition continues.
