Derna University has launched a four-day national training workshop focused on crisis and disaster response, in collaboration with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO). The workshop, titled “Training Specialists in Psychology and Sociology on Crisis and Disaster Response – Derna as a Model,” began today at the university’s General Administration Building.

Organised in partnership with the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science and ICESCO, the event brings together experts to train professionals on psychological and social intervention techniques during emergencies.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Nasr Al-Mansouri, President of Derna University, and an ICESCO delegation headed by Sabah Al-Maghrabi, ICESCO’s Secretary in Libya.

Participants include faculty from Derna University, representatives from the Derna Municipality Council and the Directorate of Security, social workers from the education departments in Derna and Al-Qubah, as well as members of civil society organisations.

The sessions are led by a team of international specialists and academic experts from Derna University. The programme focuses on best practices in crisis response, psychological support mechanisms, and strategies to assist vulnerable populations affected by disasters.
