The Chief of Security in Sabha, Major General Khaled Al-Bassta, has called for intensified efforts to dismantle drug trafficking and migrant smuggling networks operating in the southern Libyan city. His remarks came during a high-level security meeting focused on pressing security challenges.

The meeting was attended by his deputy, Major General Al-Sadiq Bin Saud, senior assistants for public and security affairs, heads of police departments, and the director of the Criminal Investigation Department in Sabha.

Topping the agenda was the issue of irregular migration, which remains a persistent concern for the region. General Al-Bassta stressed the urgent need to strike at the strongholds of criminal gangs involved in smuggling migrants, as well as those exploiting vulnerable individuals for drug trafficking and illicit activities.

He underlined the importance of identifying and arresting individuals facilitating illegal migration, urging law enforcement to intensify their pursuit of those involved and ensure they are brought to justice.

The meeting also addressed the need to apprehend suspects wanted in connection with various criminal cases. Al-Bassta emphasised activating arrest warrants and increasing the frequency of security patrols across Sebha to locate and detain fugitives.

“Restoring security and stability in Sebha requires firm action against all those violating the law,” he said, highlighting the need for coordinated efforts among all police departments.

Sabha, located in southern Libya, has long faced challenges related to porous borders, human trafficking, and organised crime. Security officials hope that stronger collaboration and enforcement will help curb the criminal activities that threaten the city’s stability.
