The head of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Badr Al-Din Al-Najjar, held a meeting on Thursday, with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Khaled Mazen, and some ministry officials.

They discussed reopening the borders and concluding an agreement to facilitate transit between Libya and Tunisia.

According to a statement by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) released on its Facebook page, the meeting also discussed the arrangements that are supposed to be taken to confront the Coronavirus epidemic.

The officials discussed the importance of generalising medical procedures, such as imposing health and security controls, whether in entry or exit from the borders.

Among the most important of these measures are focusing on health controls, preventing gatherings, applying a security distance, and adopting the necessary proactive measures in the event of approval to reopen the borders.

Al-Najjar said that it was imperative to provide PCR analysis laboratories at the border crossings and necessary to conduct a medical analysis for those coming from Tunisia.

Al-Najjar pointed out the importance of this type of analysis that releases the results on the same day, in addition to sterilizing and disinfecting all vehicles, goods, and bags coming and leaving, and providing personal preventive means for workers in ports.

Since the beginning of the crisis, Al-Najjar announced that the Centre was conducting a community-based epidemiological survey to estimate the prevalence of COVID-19 in the country.

Several Arab countries have tightened restrictions on movement and travel to curb the spread of the virus. Trillions of dollars have been pledged in economic stimulus packages around the world to reduce the economic repercussions of the crisis.
