Libyan Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqeela Saleh, has officially inaugurated several major development projects in Derna, completed by the Fund for the Development and Reconstruction of Libya, in accordance with international standards.

The ceremony was attended by Second Deputy Speaker Misbah Douma, members of the House of Representatives, Prime Minister of the Libyan Government-designate Osama Hammad, Director-General of the Development and Reconstruction Fund Belgasem Haftar, and Second Deputy Head of the High Council of State Omar Al-Obaidi. A number of other state officials and members of the High Council of State were also present.

According to Parliament Spokesman Abdullah Blehiq, the key project unveiled was the dual-lane eastern entrance road to the city, known as “Aqabat Al-Fattaih,” which has now been expanded and upgraded to meet modern specifications.

In a boost to the city’s cultural and artistic life, officials also inaugurated the National Theatre and the King Idris I Library, following comprehensive renovation works. These landmarks, restored to modern standards, were reopened in the presence of a distinguished group of artists, writers, and intellectuals, highlighting Derna’s historic status as a cultural hub.

Additionally, the newly renovated headquarters of the Internal Security Agency – Derna Branch – was inaugurated. The ceremony was attended by the agency’s chief, Major General Osama Al-Darsi, and included the graduation of a new cohort of recruits. This development is seen as a significant step in reinforcing local security and aligning with Derna’s ongoing urban and developmental revival.

These projects are part of broader efforts to restore essential infrastructure and public institutions in Derna, a city that has long been a symbol of resilience and cultural pride in eastern Libya.
