The Libyan National Army (LNA) announced the success of a coordinated air and ground military operation that targeted an armed group of Chadian opposition fighters near Libya’s southern border.
The operation, which took place at dawn on Sunday, was carried out in retaliation for the deaths of two Libyan soldiers, Faraj Al-Naji and Fathi Al-Mabrouk, who were killed in a previous clash with the same group.
In an official statement, the LNA’s Military Media Division confirmed that the operation inflicted heavy losses on the targeted militants. The army described the mission as “precise and highly effective,” noting that reconnaissance units, both ground-based and aerial, continue to monitor the area, tracking any remaining fighters and suspicious movements.
The LNA emphasized its full commitment to defending Libya’s borders and maintaining national security. It vowed to continue conducting proactive military operations to neutralize any threats near the southern frontier. The army warned that any attempt to infiltrate Libyan territory or undermine the country’s security would be met with a swift and forceful military response.
In a separate statement, the LNA’s General Command mourned the loss of the two fallen soldiers, praising their bravery and sacrifice in protecting Libya’s sovereignty. The army expressed deep condolences to their families and asked for divine mercy for the deceased, while also honoring their role in defending the nation against foreign armed groups.
This latest military action highlights the ongoing security challenges along Libya’s vast and porous southern borders, where various armed groups, smugglers, and militants frequently operate. The LNA has intensified its operations in the region in recent months to deter infiltration, prevent arms smuggling, and dismantle networks linked to foreign fighters.
The army reaffirmed its determination to pursue all necessary measures to protect Libyan territory, pledging continued vigilance and operational readiness in response to any cross-border threats.
