Belgassem Haftar, Director General of the Reconstruction and Development Fund, has signed a major contract with Turkish company Albavvaba Hizmetleri Limited Sirketi to supply, install, and modernize air navigation and communication systems across several airports in the country.

The agreement covers the modernization of both air and ground communication infrastructure in the airports of Benghazi, Sabha, Sirte, Ubari, Al Abraq, Martouba, and Tobruk, spanning eastern, southern, and central Libya.

This step marks a significant stride in Libya’s efforts to revive its civil aviation sector and improve air traffic safety, efficiency, and international compliance.

The new systems are expected to boost operational capabilities at these airports, many of which have suffered from years of underinvestment and damage due to conflict and neglect.

According to officials, the upgrades will include the installation of advanced air navigation systems to ensure precise and safe aircraft guidance, as well as the enhancement of ground and aerial communication channels to improve coordination between pilots and control towers.

The systems will also help align Libyan airports with international aviation standards, potentially paving the way for increased international flights and investment.

The signing falls under the broader mandate of the Reconstruction and Development Fund, which has been accelerating infrastructure projects in transportation, health, and education across the country, particularly in areas affected by war and instability.
