Russia has reaffirmed its full support for Libya’s political process during a meeting held on Tuesday in Tripoli between Russian Ambassador Aidar Aghanin and Libya’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Al-Taher Al-Baour.
According to a statement from Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aghanin expressed Russia’s firm backing for a political solution led and owned by Libyans, emphasizing the importance of achieving lasting stability in Libya through inclusive dialogue and national reconciliation.
He stressed that Russia remains committed to supporting Libyan sovereignty and unity, away from foreign interference.
The talks also explored opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two nations in multiple fields, particularly in areas of political coordination, security dialogue, and economic partnerships.
Both sides agreed on the need to maintain regular consultations and ensure that mutual interests are served within a framework of respect and shared responsibility.
This diplomatic exchange comes amid ongoing efforts in Libya to relaunch the stalled political process and move toward national elections.
Despite internal divisions and the absence of a unified executive authority, Libya has continued engaging international partners to secure support for stabilization, governance reform, and institutional rebuilding.
Russia has consistently called for a peaceful and negotiated resolution to the Libyan crisis and has positioned itself as a long-term partner to all sides in the country. Its involvement in Libya, whether through diplomacy or bilateral cooperation, remains central to its broader policy in the Mediterranean and North Africa.
Al-Baour welcomed Russia’s engagement and affirmed Libya’s desire to build stronger partnerships with international actors willing to support peace, sovereignty, and development in the country.
He stressed that Libya values balanced international support that respects its national will and fosters lasting stability.
