Libya Showcases Local Agriculture at 1st Al-Qalaa Fruit Exhibition

Libya’s Minister of Economy and Trade in the outgoing Government of National Unity (GNU), Mohamed Al-Hwaij, inaugurated on Thursday the first edition of the annual Al-Qalaa Fig and Rainfed Fruits Exhibition in the city of Al-Qalaa, located in the Nafusa Mountains.

The event gathered more than 70 farmers alongside representatives from agricultural research centers and marketing institutions specializing in agricultural products.

Officials Attend the Opening Ceremony
The inauguration was attended by Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries Nasr al-Din al-Fazzani, Deputy Minister of Livestock for Agricultural Affairs Taj al-Din Hemma, Chairman of the Export Development Authority Mohamed Al-Hunqari, as well as the Mayor and members of the local council. Elders and guests from various Libyan cities also participated, according to the Libyan News Agency (LANA).

Supporting Local Agriculture and Export Potential
In his remarks, Minister Al-Hwaij stressed that the exhibition represents a vital step toward supporting local agricultural projects and encouraging farmers to increase production and enhance quality. He highlighted the importance of focusing on packaging, branding, and modern marketing techniques to strengthen the competitiveness of Libyan agricultural products in both domestic and foreign markets.

Agriculture as a Pillar of Sustainable Development
Al-Hwaij reaffirmed that the Ministry of Economy and Trade, in cooperation with relevant institutions, will continue to support the agricultural sector as a cornerstone of sustainable development and a key driver of economic diversification in Libya.
