The Libyan Anti-Illegal Immigration Authority has deported 90 undocumented Nigerian migrants through Benina International Airport, as part of its ongoing efforts to address irregular migration and uphold security and human rights standards.
According to a statement released Wednesday by the Authority’s Security Media Office, the deportation operation was carried out on Tuesday in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The group included 70 men and 20 women, all of Nigerian nationality.
The operation is part of a broader series of voluntary repatriation flights aimed at returning undocumented migrants to their countries of origin, the statement said.
The initiative falls under the comprehensive national plan implemented by the Authority, under the directives of Major General Salah Al-Khufifi, to reduce illegal migration across Libya. The authority emphasized that such efforts are conducted in line with international human rights standards and are designed to preserve national security and stability.
Libya remains a key transit point for migrants hoping to reach Europe, and the country continues to work with international partners to manage migration flows while ensuring humane treatment for those intercepted or detained.
The statement reiterated that the deportations are part of ongoing, structured operations, not arbitrary expulsions, and that future flights are planned in cooperation with international organizations.
