The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, met in Benghazi with chiefs, elders, and dignitaries of Egypt’s Awlad Ali tribe, alongside representatives of several Libyan tribes. The gathering was attended by senior military and security officials, underlining the importance of historic and social bonds uniting Libya and Egypt.

General Haftar conveyed greetings from Field Marshal Khalifa Belgassem Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the LNA, praising the distinguished role of tribal leaders in safeguarding stability and strengthening ties between the two nations. He highlighted the strong fraternal relations that link Libya and Egypt under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

The Awlad Ali representatives extended their congratulations to General Saddam Haftar on his recent appointment as Deputy Commander-in-Chief, wishing him success in his national duties. They stressed the tribe’s position as a vital bridge between the Libyan and Egyptian peoples, reaffirming their commitment to reinforcing unity and stability in the region.

During the meeting, General Haftar praised the efforts of tribal leaders in preserving social cohesion, protecting national unity, and consolidating brotherly ties to ensure security and stability that serve the shared destiny of both nations.

He also offered condolences to the Awlad Ali tribe following the death of one of their members, expressing sympathy and praying for the deceased. The incident, which involved the killing of an Egyptian national at a border crossing by Libyan security personnel, has stirred tensions in the border region. The meeting was therefore seen as a crucial step towards easing sensitivities and reaffirming cooperation between Libyan authorities and Egyptian tribal communities.
