Libyan security forces have arrested an Indian national linked to the Islamic State group (ISIS), who was wanted by Interpol. The arrest took place in the Al-Murgub area in Libya following a coordinated security operation.

The Intervention and Control Force – Al-Murgub Branch said in a statement on Tuesday that the man was apprehended during a joint mission involving the General Department of Criminal Investigation, the Internal Security Agency, the local police station, and the Criminal Investigation Department in Gasr Al-Akhyar.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out on Sunday after intelligence reports confirmed the suspect’s location. Security units raided a residence where the man was staying and uncovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives. Among the seized items were a Mercedes family car rigged with explosives and large quantities of bomb-making materials prepared for potential terrorist attacks.

The force confirmed that the suspect was arrested without incident. Authorities documented all seized materials before transferring the detainee to the competent bodies for further investigation and legal procedures.

The statement emphasised that the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and organised crime across Libya. “We remain determined to pursue all terrorist elements and dismantle networks that threaten national security, in full coordination with security partners,” the force declared.

The arrest highlights Libya’s continuing struggle against extremist groups seeking to exploit instability in the country. The cooperation with Interpol reflects increasing international coordination to counter transnational terrorism.
