Ali Al-Takbali, a Member of the Libyan Parliament, said that the position of Parliament Speaker Ageela Saleh is based on the Cairo Declaration.
In exclusive statements to Al-Ittihad newspaper given on Sunday, Al-Takbali expressed his hope for a political solution to the Libyan crisis.
Al-Takbali indicated that this was already facing obstacles regarding the control of Turkey, mercenaries, and militias over the decision of the Presidency Council.
He pointed out that no agreement can be guaranteed to succeed unless the Turks evacuate Libya, stressing that the ceasefire in Libya depends on Al-Sarraj’s removal of the Turkish troops and their foreign mercenaries from Libya.
The Member of Parliament pointed out that the armed militias surrounding Al-Sarraj for years remain the ones performing the decisions.
Ankara continues to escalate its involvement in the Libyan conflict by supporting the Government of National Accord (GNA), despite Turkey participating and agreeing to the results of the Berlin conference held last January where foreign states active in Libya agreed to uphold the UN arms embargo.
Civil war broke out in Libya after the toppling of long-time ruler Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, who was later killed. Numerous militias are fighting for power and influence in the country, with Tripoli-allied militias backed by Turkey, Qatar and Italy. Meanwhile, eastern-based military commander Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army is backed by the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, France and Russia.
