Benghazi is set to host the 13th edition of the Libya International Holy Quran Award, welcoming around 120 participants from 75 countries. The event begins on Saturday and is organised by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs under the Libyan government, with the support of the Libyan National Army’s General Command.

On Friday morning, members of the judging panel and participants landed at Benina International Airport, where they were received by representatives of the Ministry of Endowments and the organising committee. Officials extended a warm welcome to the delegations and facilitated their arrival procedures ahead of the opening ceremony.

The Libya International Holy Quran Award is recognised as one of the leading competitions in the Muslim world. Each year, it attracts memorisers of the Quran from across the globe, reflecting Libya’s longstanding role in supporting Quranic education and its commitment to hosting religious and cultural events of international significance.

The Quran competition follows Benghazi’s first international media conference, held last week, which drew global attention and sparked varied reactions on social media platforms. The succession of events highlights the city’s growing role as a hub for cultural and international gatherings.

Organisers emphasised that the event is not only a competition but also an opportunity to promote unity among Muslim nations through the shared values of the Quran. With participants from Africa, Asia, Europe, and beyond, the gathering underscores the universal appeal of the Quran and Libya’s commitment to serving its heritage.
