Al-Mismari: GNA’s Ceasefire Announcement Attempts to Cover up Planned Attack on Sirte

On Sunday, the Spokesman for the Libyan National Army (LNA), Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, confirmed that they have observed that Turkish ships and frigates were heading towards the city of Sirte during the past 24 hours, adding that the Government of National Accord (GNA) is also mobilising forces and transferring military equipment to attack the city.

In a press conference, Al-Mismari said that the recent military action is part of a larger plan mapped out by foreign parties, pointing out that the ceasefire announcement by the GNA’s Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj aims to cover up his real intentions to plan an attack against LNA forces.

He added that the Turkish Defence Minister held talks today with GNA leaders and agreed to launch an attack on Sirte. Al-Mismari emphasized that the LNA is fully prepared to confront any attack, noting that terrorism is expanding in Libya under international sponsorship from Qatar and Turkey.

On Friday, Al-Sarraj announced a nationwide ceasefire and ordered the GNA’s forces to halt all military operations across the country.

He also called for holding presidential and parliamentary elections in March.
