On Sunday, the Sultanate of Oman welcomed announcement of a ceasefire in Libya made by the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Speaker of Parliament Ageela Saleh.

In a statement, the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) voiced its hope that the ceasefire agreement will lead to a comprehensive national dialogue that fulfils the aspirations of the brotherly Libyan people. It also called on the two warring parties in Libya to seize this opportunity to reach a comprehensive and lasting peaceful solution to the Libyan issue.

On Friday, Libya’s GNA government, headed by Fayez Al-Sarraj, announced a nationwide ceasefire and ordered its forces to halt all military operations across the country.

The GNA’s PM also called for holding presidential and parliamentary elections in March.
