Libya’s Benghazi Hosts Commemoration of Omar Al-Mukhtar

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Libya commemorated the anniversary of Omar Al-Mukhtar, the revered “Sheikh of Martyrs”, at his mausoleum in Benghazi.

The event was organized under the directives of Foreign Minister Dr. Abdelhadi Al-Hwaij, with a formal delegation led by Ambassador Mohamed Al-Zaidi, Ambassador Abdelsalam Al-Ruqai’i, and Counselor Abdelhafid Al-Tajouri.

National Symbols and Legacy of Resistance

The commemoration highlighted the ministry’s commitment to honoring national symbols and preserving the legacy of Libya’s anti-colonial struggle.

The program included a historical narrative recounting the key milestones of Omar Al-Mukhtar’s resistance against colonial forces, emphasizing his enduring lessons of sacrifice, resilience, and devotion to the homeland.

Wide Participation in Benghazi

The ceremony, organized by the Peacebuilding Center of the ministry, was attended by national figures, members of the House of Representatives, civil society representatives, and received extensive media coverage.

Speakers stressed that honoring Omar Al-Mukhtar’s memory reinforces the values of sacrifice and patriotism, serving as a unifying national symbol and an inspiration for future generations to carry forward the spirit of struggle in defense of Libya.
