The Ministry of Oil and Gas in Libya has reaffirmed its commitment to shaping a responsible and sustainable energy future for the country. In partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the ministry has organised the National Conference on Just and Sustainable Energy Transition in Libya, scheduled for 24 and 25 September at the Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli.
The event, held under invitation only, aims to serve as a national platform for dialogue on renewable energy, sustainable development, and environmental protection. While attendance at the venue will be restricted, selected sessions are set to be broadcast virtually, enabling broader participation.
The conference is part of Libya’s wider vision to align with global energy transition goals while safeguarding its own strategic priorities. Officials stated that the event will bring together policymakers, experts, and international partners to address challenges and opportunities in moving from conventional oil and gas dependency towards diversified and renewable energy sources.
In a statement, the ministry described the initiative as a crucial step in supporting Libya’s pathway to an inclusive and fair energy transformation. It also highlighted the importance of cooperation with international organisations to ensure the transition is consistent with global sustainability standards.
The discussions will also shed light on Libya’s “Energy Jeel Initiative”, a programme launched by the ministry to promote innovation, investment, and awareness in the field of renewable energy. According to organisers, the initiative aims to engage younger generations and position Libya as a proactive player in the region’s clean energy landscape.
By hosting this conference, Libya signals its readiness to confront the dual challenge of meeting domestic energy needs while committing to international climate and sustainability obligations.
