The Human Rights Committee of Libya’s High Council of State held a meeting on Wednesday with representatives from the British Embassy in Tripoli to discuss ongoing cooperation on human rights, with a particular focus on women’s rights and irregular migration.

The meeting was held at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli and was attended by the Chair of the Committee, Fawzia Krawan, along with committee members Fathallah Al-Sariri, Latifa Khbeiza, Amal Al-Sallabi, and Aisha Qliwan.

Representing the British Embassy were Laura Caccia, Political Section Secretary, and Alma Qouri, Officer for Policy and Security Programs.

The discussions explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the field of human rights, with an emphasis on advancing women’s rights, promoting gender equality, and addressing the humanitarian and legal dimensions of irregular migration in Libya.

The two sides exchanged views on the challenges facing women in Libya, especially in relation to political participation, legal protection, and access to services. They also touched on the broader human rights framework and the importance of aligning domestic policies with international standards.

At the conclusion of the talks, both parties reaffirmed the importance of continuing regular engagement and coordination on issues of mutual concern. The participants expressed their readiness to deepen collaboration in support of national efforts to protect rights and promote social stability.
