The Libyan Government-designate, appointed by the House of Representatives, held its second meeting to advance the voluntary return program for Sudanese refugees. The session was chaired by Libya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdelhadi Al-Hwaij, and attended by Sudan’s Consul General in Benghazi, Abdelrahman Rahmatallah, along with representatives of various Libyan authorities and institutions.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the meeting focused on mechanisms to speed up the return procedures for Sudanese nationals displaced by the ongoing conflict in Sudan. Among the top priorities discussed were conducting rapid and comprehensive health screenings for individuals with chronic or infectious diseases, as well as addressing the cases of those with security restrictions or deportation orders.

The meeting also addressed cooperation with the Sudanese Consulate in issuing essential travel documents for individuals included in the first phase of the program. Participants agreed to intensify efforts to ensure practical steps are taken swiftly, aiming for efficient and dignified repatriation while maintaining high procedural standards.

Libya continues to play a key role in facilitating humanitarian initiatives across North Africa, especially as regional conflicts continue to displace thousands. The voluntary return program is part of broader efforts by Libyan authorities to coordinate with neighboring countries and international bodies to manage migration and displacement more effectively.
