Local sources reported that a young man, Mohamed Al-Faqi, was killed after being shot in the city of Al-Zawiya.

The victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after the attack, while the perpetrators fled the scene.

No official statement has yet been issued by the relevant security authorities regarding the circumstances of the incident.

Days ago, a young Libyan man, Omar Jarad, has died from injuries sustained in a drive-by shooting late last night on the coastal road in Zawiya, west of Tripoli.

According to local reports, Jarad — a resident of Harsha — was struck by a hail of bullets fired by unknown armed assailants, who immediately fled the scene.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement or confirm whether an investigation has been opened into the incident.

The tragic death has raised renewed concerns over public safety and the rising number of armed attacks on Libya’s western coastal routes. Residents in Harsha and surrounding areas are calling for increased security measures to prevent further bloodshed.

Libya has been in chaos since a NATO-backed uprising toppled longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The county has for years been split between rival administrations.

Libya’s economy, heavily reliant on oil, has suffered due to the ongoing conflict. The instability has led to fluctuations in oil production and prices, impacting the global oil market and Libya’s economy.

The conflict has led to a significant humanitarian crisis in Libya, with thousands of people killed, and many more displaced. Migrants and refugees using Libya as a transit point to Europe have also faced dire conditions.

The planned elections for December 2021 were delayed due to disagreements over election laws and the eligibility of certain candidates. This delay has raised concerns about the feasibility of a peaceful political transition.

Despite the ceasefire, security remains a significant concern with sporadic fighting and the presence of mercenaries and foreign fighters. The unification of the military and the removal of foreign forces are crucial challenges.
