Egypt & Germany Reaffirm Support for Libyan-Led Political Solution

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul held talks on Tuesday to discuss the latest updates on the Libyan crisis, emphasizing the urgent need to advance a political solution that reflects the will of the Libyan people.

In their talks, the Egyptian minister underscored Egypt’s firm position in supporting a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process, stressing that the only viable path to stability lies in conducting simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest possible date.

He also highlighted the importance of fully withdrawing all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory, which he described as a core requirement for restoring sovereignty, national unity, and long-term stability. Egypt views the presence of foreign military actors as a direct obstacle to peace and institutional unification.

The Egyptian top diplomat reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting the unification of Libyan institutions and the preservation of Libya’s territorial integrity, without external interference. He reiterated Cairo’s readiness to assist in fostering dialogue among Libyan stakeholders and promoting inclusive governance.

For his part, German Foreign Minister Wadephul acknowledged Egypt’s critical regional role and expressed Berlin’s support for coordinated international efforts aimed at revitalizing the UN-led roadmap for Libya. He agreed on the necessity of timely elections and institutional unification to ensure that Libya transitions toward sustainable governance.

Both sides stressed that the solution to Libya’s crisis must be built on the principles of national sovereignty, non-intervention, and political inclusiveness. The meeting reflects growing European-Arab consensus on the need to de-escalate tensions and re-launch the political process under international supervision and regional backing.
