Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), held high-level talks in Ankara on Thursday with Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler to discuss ways of reinforcing military cooperation between Libya and Turkey.

The meeting, which took place at the Turkish Ministry of Defense, is part of Haftar’s ongoing diplomatic outreach and marks his third visit to Turkey this year, following earlier visits in April and July.

According to a statement issued by the LNA Media Office, the discussions focused on strengthening joint military coordination in ways that help both nations confront shared security challenges and support broader efforts to stabilize the region.

The two sides exchanged assessments on current global and regional dynamics, with particular emphasis on Mediterranean security and the changing landscape of regional alliances.

During his visit, Haftar also met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to review issues of mutual interest and assess regional developments. Their talks included an examination of bilateral cooperation and potential areas where political and security collaboration could be expanded to serve the interests of both countries.

Haftar’s visit is seen as part of a broader trend of recalibrating regional relationships around Libya’s complex security landscape.

Officials from both countries indicated that the talks demonstrate a shared interest in managing security challenges, reducing tensions, and promoting stability in North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean. Haftar is expected to continue his official engagements in Ankara before concluding his visit.
