The Chairman of Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, met on Thursday with the Swiss Ambassador to Libya, Joseph Ringli, and his accompanying delegation at the Commission’s headquarters in Tripoli.
The visit focused on preparations for the upcoming third group of municipal council elections scheduled for 2025, and ways to strengthen international support for Libya’s democratic path.
During the meeting, Al-Sayeh reviewed the technical and logistical readiness of the Commission as it prepares to launch the new round of municipal elections. He outlined the efforts underway to ensure the elections are conducted in accordance with the highest international standards.
The two sides also discussed the ongoing technical assistance being provided by international partners to enhance the Commission’s capacity to manage and implement electoral processes.
Al-Sayeh expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s consistent support for Libya’s democratic transition, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation between the Commission and its international partners. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and institutional independence in delivering electoral events that reflect the will of the Libyan people.
Ambassador Ringli, for his part, praised the efforts of the Commission, particularly its transparent and professional approach to organizing elections. He reiterated Switzerland’s readiness to continue supporting Libya’s democratic journey and to contribute to strengthening the Commission’s capabilities in delivering successful and inclusive elections.
The meeting comes amid ongoing international efforts to assist Libya in building a democratic framework that ensures political stability and citizen participation. Switzerland is among several international actors providing technical support and advocating for free and fair elections as a cornerstone for Libya’s long-term peace and governance.
