In a field visit to the remote southern city of Ubari, Lt. Gen. Saddam Haftar, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Libyan Armed Forces, reiterated that the security of citizens and social stability rank high among the military’s priorities. The trip forms part of a larger southern tour encompassing key towns in Libya’s far south.
Haftar was welcomed by local security officials, tribal leaders, and elders, to whom he conveyed greetings and appreciation from the military’s top commander, Marshal Khalifa Haftar. He emphasized that the tribes of Wadi al-Hayat carry significant social and national weight, and their sacrifices will forever retain a place in Libya’s collective memory.
During the meeting, Haftar promised that the armed forces would continue to support southern communities, placing citizen security and societal stability at the forefront of their agenda. He stressed the need for cooperation with sincere patriots in building a rule-of-law state grounded in institutions.
He also announced the launch of a comprehensive initiative aimed at addressing the crises plaguing southern Libya. The plan reportedly focuses on enhancing public services, stimulating development, reinforcing security, and restoring balance to the region.
Haftar further underlined the importance of transforming the south from a region of security challenges and service gaps into one that bolsters Libya’s military and development efforts. He described social cohesion as a vital safeguard for national stability, praising the people of Fezzan for their historic contributions—from anti-colonial resistance to defending Libya’s resources and borders.
