A security delegation from Emirates Airlines conducted an inspection visit to Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport to evaluate the airport’s security procedures and overall readiness for resuming flights between Tripoli and Dubai.
According to a statement by Libya’s Airports Authority on Facebook, the delegation was received on Monday by Abdulmonem Al-Qamoudi, Assistant Director-General of Mitiga Airport. The visit focused on reviewing security operations, terminal facilities, and compliance with international aviation safety standards.
This inspection comes as part of ongoing efforts to restore direct air connections between Libya and the United Arab Emirates, reflecting the shared commitment of Libya’s Airports Authority and Civil Aviation Authority to enhance aviation infrastructure and attract international airlines back to Libyan airports.
Last week, representatives from Emirates Airlines and the UAE Civil Aviation Authority visited Libya, meeting with officials from both the Government of National Unity (GNU) in Tripoli and the House of Representatives-appointed government in the east. Discussions centred on resuming direct flights from Dubai to both Tripoli and Benghazi.
During their field tour, the Emirates Airlines team inspected passenger terminals 1 and 2, security checkpoints, and runways to ensure the facilities meet global standards for safety and efficiency.
Libya’s aviation sector views this step as a key milestone in rebuilding international confidence in its airspace and airports after years of disruption. Officials hope that the successful completion of security assessments will soon lead to the official return of Emirates flights, strengthening commercial and tourism links between the two countries.
