The Libyan Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM), al-Batnan branch, has deported 142 irregular Egyptian migrants through the Imssaed land border crossing, according to an official statement released on Facebook.
The migrants were detained during security operations carried out by the DCIM in cooperation with the Border Guard and the Criminal Investigation Department, as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal migration and enhance border control.
The statement added that the deportation process was coordinated by the Imssaed Deportation Unit, reflecting continued collaboration between Libya’s relevant security bodies. The DCIM confirmed that its field teams and affiliated offices are maintaining regular operations in line with directives from the department’s leadership to uphold the law and strengthen national security and stability.
The latest deportation comes shortly after the DCIM announced the repatriation of 37 irregular migrants from Derna, who were nationals of Bangladesh, Somalia, Yemen and Chad. The department stated that these migrants were sent back to their home countries following coordination with diplomatic representatives and relevant authorities.
Earlier reports also indicated that 96 Egyptian migrants had been deported via the same border crossing in a separate operation.
Libya remains one of the main transit points for migrants attempting to reach Europe via the Mediterranean. Thousands of migrants continue to pass through the country each year despite increased security measures, international criticism of detention conditions, and calls for more humane migration management policies.
The DCIM has reiterated its commitment to enforcing Libyan migration laws while coordinating with neighbouring countries to ensure the safe and orderly return of migrants.
