Benghazi Hosts 2nd International Conference on Languages & Translation

The Libyan city of Benghazi hosted the Second International Conference on Languages and Translation, bringing together diplomats, academics, and researchers from across Libya and abroad in a major cultural and academic event that underscored the city’s growing prominence as a hub for international cooperation and intellectual exchange.

The conference was organized by the Language Center at the University of Benghazi, under the leadership of Dr. Yousef Al-Zaghwani, and took place at the Sanā Mheidli Auditorium. The event drew wide participation, including representatives from the Libyan House of Representatives, and diplomats from the Moroccan, Italian, and Greek consulates, alongside numerous universities, translation experts, and international scholars.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s delegation reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to promoting academic and cultural collaboration and to fostering openness toward global experiences in the fields of languages, translation, and intercultural communication.

On the sidelines of the event, the delegation met with representatives of the Venice Association for Arab-Italian Friendship to discuss plans for establishing a Libyan–Italian Cultural Center in Benghazi, as well as opening a local branch of the association in the city. The initiative aims to strengthen cultural relations and promote economic diplomacy between Libya and Italy.

Throughout the conference, participants exchanged ideas and research on linguistic diversity, translation practices, and the role of languages in promoting cultural understanding and international cooperation.

The event represented a renewed effort to position Libya—and Benghazi in particular—as a bridge between Mediterranean and global cultures, signaling the country’s determination to revive its intellectual and cultural engagement with the world.
