The Chairman of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, met with the French Ambassador to Libya, Thierry Vallat, at the Commission’s headquarters in Tripoli to discuss the progress of Libya’s municipal elections and the successful completion of the most recent voting phase.
The discussion focused on the third round of municipal council elections, which took place on October 18 across 16 municipalities. Both sides praised the smooth and transparent organization of the polls, noting the effective coordination among electoral partners and the professionalism of the Commission’s staff during all stages of the process.
Chairman Al-Sayeh briefed the French ambassador on the Commission’s preparations for upcoming electoral stages, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency, efficiency, and credibility in election management. He also emphasized the importance of continued international cooperation in supporting capacity-building programs for the Commission’s technical and administrative teams.
For his part, the French Ambassador commended the HNEC for its professionalism and for ensuring the successful conduct of the recent elections. He reaffirmed France’s unwavering support for Libya’s electoral process, describing it as a key step toward stability, national reconciliation, and the reinforcement of democratic institutions.
Both officials agreed on the importance of maintaining momentum in the electoral track and ensuring that all future elections meet the highest international standards of integrity and inclusiveness.
