The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced that around 460 participants took part in a digital discussion with Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stephanie Khoury, to explore priorities for Libya’s upcoming Structured National Dialogue.
According to UNSMIL, the online session — held on Monday evening — allowed Libyans from various regions to share their views on the main issues that should shape the national dialogue process.
Four Main Pillars of Discussion
The mission said that participants identified key priorities and challenges across four major pillars:
Governance and Public Policy
Security
Economy
Human Rights and National Reconciliation
The UN mission emphasized that these pillars will form the foundation of the structured dialogue, which aims to build consensus among Libyan stakeholders and advance the country toward lasting stability.
Inclusive and Interactive Participation
UNSMIL explained that the online event was designed as an interactive session, during which participants responded to time-limited questions and selected answers from several options presented.
The mission added that a new digital survey will soon be launched for those who were unable to participate in the live discussion, ensuring broader engagement across Libyan society.
Next Steps: Preparing for Structured Dialogue Sessions
The United Nations mission announced plans to hold structured dialogue sessions next month, in parallel with the process of selecting its participants.
These sessions are part of the preparatory steps outlined in the UN Roadmap presented by Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya.
The roadmap seeks to unify Libya’s institutions, end political fragmentation, and pave the way toward general elections, marking a crucial step toward national reconciliation and democratic governance.
