Benghazi is witnessing vibrant celebrations as the second edition of the Libya Heritage Carnival continues at Al-Keesh Square. The event, organized by the Libyan Heritage and Wildlife Authority under the direct supervision of the Deputy Commander-in-Chief, features broad participation from cities and regions across the country — reflecting Libya’s rich cultural heritage and shared national identity.

Cultural Unity Through Tradition

Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for Poetry and Folk Heritage, Salah Al-Ghazali, said this year’s edition is “exceptional in every sense,” featuring new and diverse elements compared to the first edition, which focused mainly on horse and camel racing, shooting, and falconry.
The 2025 carnival expanded to include poetry recitals and a wide array of cultural performances highlighting Libya’s traditional arts.

Al-Ghazali noted that more than 55 cultural and heritage associations from across Libya took part under the slogan “Heritage Unites Us.” He emphasized that the goal is to strengthen cultural cooperation, promote Libyan traditions as a core part of the national identity, and foster values of coexistence and unity.
The carnival also featured exhibitions of traditional clothing, cuisine, handicrafts, and antiques — celebrating the depth and diversity of Libyan culture. He added that next year’s third edition will feature even more activities and creative expansions.

Inclusion and Empowerment

Head of the Committee for Persons with Disabilities, Dr. Laila Al-Oujli, said that this year’s event dedicated a large section to participants with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity and equality across all activities.
She noted that the heritage exhibition included diverse women’s contributions — from traditional dishes and home furnishings to handmade incense and artwork — showcasing Libyan women’s creativity and their role in cultural and economic empowerment.

Al-Oujli praised the comfortable and accessible organization of the event, describing it as a “progressive step toward full and active inclusion in national events.”
