Libya’s Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwaij, has announced plans to establish a unified digital platform that will link all chambers of commerce across the country. The initiative aims to streamline business operations, enhance transparency, and accelerate Libya’s transition toward a modern, digital economy.
During a high-level meeting at the ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli, Al-Hwaij reviewed the project proposal presented by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture. The platform will serve as a central digital hub for traders and companies, allowing them to submit applications, obtain trade certificates, and complete import and export documentation electronically.
Al-Hwaij emphasized that the project reflects the ministry’s broader vision for digital transformation and the modernization of Libya’s commercial sector. He noted that simplifying administrative procedures and reducing bureaucracy are essential to strengthening private sector growth and competitiveness.
The new digital system will also feature a dedicated interface for the Libyan Customs Authority, enabling officials to verify the authenticity of certificates and trade documents issued by local chambers of commerce. According to Al-Hwaij, this step will help combat fraud, ensure compliance, and improve coordination between government agencies and the business community.
The minister praised the technical team at the Federation of Chambers for their efforts in developing the project and directed them to finalize the platform’s design and implementation plan. He also called for closer coordination with regional chambers to ensure the system meets the needs of businesses across Libya’s diverse regions.
In addition to the digital platform, the meeting addressed the challenges facing Libya’s chambers of commerce, including administrative and logistical obstacles. Al-Hwaij reaffirmed the government’s support for empowering the private sector as a key driver of national economic recovery and diversification.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Investment Affairs, the Head of the Supreme Committee for Chamber Organization, and representatives from chambers in Tripoli, Zliten, Al-Zawiya, Al-Murqub, and the Western Region.
