The Arab Parliament has reaffirmed its full support for the Libyan people and for all national and regional efforts aimed at completing Libya’s constitutional process and holding presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
The body emphasized that these steps are essential for fulfilling the aspirations of the Libyan people to build a unified, secure, and stable state.
The statement came during the first general session of the second session of the fourth legislative term of the Arab Parliament, held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
The session was attended by members of Libya’s House of Representatives, including Abu Salah Shalabi, Ahlam Al-Lafi, Hassan Al-Barghouti, and Abdul-Salam Nasia, according to Parliament Spokesperson Abdullah Belhaq.
During the meeting, the Arab Parliament expressed its readiness to continue supporting Libyan dialogue efforts, welcoming the commitment of Libyan representatives to advancing political stability and national reconciliation. Members underscored that the completion of constitutional arrangements and the organization of national elections are critical to restoring legitimacy to Libyan institutions and ending years of political division.
The session also featured the election of Mamdouh Al-Saleh from the Kingdom of Bahrain as Deputy Speaker of the Arab Parliament and was attended by Roland Patricio, President of the Parliament of Latin America and the Caribbean, reflecting growing inter-parliamentary cooperation between Arab and international legislative bodies.
Beyond Libya, the Arab Parliament also discussed major regional issues, particularly the Palestinian question, expressing strong condemnation of Israel’s ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip. Members praised Arab and international efforts to achieve a ceasefire and humanitarian access, stressing that a just and lasting peace begins with ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The Parliament reaffirmed its call for reconstruction in Gaza and urged the international community to take responsibility for protecting civilians and ensuring accountability for violations of international law.
