Khaled Shakshak, Chairman of Libya’s Audit Bureau and head of the African Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI), held a high-level meeting with representatives of the African Development Bank and the Executive Director of AFROSAI’s General Secretariat. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the International Congress of Supreme Audit Institutions (INCOSAI), currently being held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
The discussions focused on AFROSAI’s new institutional framework and updated working methodology following the relocation of its General Secretariat from Cameroon to Morocco. The meeting highlighted the organisation’s strategic vision and its future direction to enhance transparency, accountability, and institutional coordination across Africa.
Participants reviewed AFROSAI’s operational plan aimed at strengthening coordination among the organisation’s regional groups. Shakshak underscored the significance of the institutional reform programme adopted in 2022, which seeks to enhance the technical capacities and performance of regional audit bodies.
The talks also addressed prospects for future cooperation between AFROSAI and the African Development Bank, with particular emphasis on including the Arab group within the bank’s ongoing support programmes. Shakshak noted that stronger collaboration would help unify African oversight practices and ensure more effective implementation of development goals.
Both sides concluded by affirming their commitment to developing comprehensive strategies to support supreme audit institutions across Africa. The goal, they agreed, is to achieve institutional integration, financial sustainability, and long-term technical cooperation among member states.
The meeting reaffirmed Libya’s pivotal role in advancing accountability and financial governance in Africa through AFROSAI’s leadership and partnerships.
