On Saturday, United Nation Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged foreign actors in Libya to refrain from arming the parties to the conflict and sending mercenaries to the Libyan territories.

Guterres added in an interview with the Al-Arabiya channel, “It is time for all the actors in Libya to acknowledge that a Libyan peace process must be encouraged and to refrain from arming the various parties and bringing in mercenaries, which further complicates an already complex situation.”

He added that countries in conflict must pay attention to the Coronavirus pandemic and focus their efforts in this area.

Libya has been mired in chaos since a 2011 NATO-backed uprising that killed long-time dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Turkey is implementing a military deployment to Libya to shore up the UN-backed government while Haftar is backed by Egypt, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates.
