Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), has appointed Major General Ahmed Adam Salem Al-Darsi as Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces under Resolution No. 300 of 2025.
The appointment marks a new phase in the ongoing restructuring of Libya’s eastern-based armed forces as part of Haftar’s “Vision 2030” plan to modernize the military command structure.
The decree, announced on Wednesday, stipulates that the decision takes effect immediately and overrides all previous orders. Major General Al-Darsi replaces Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, who previously led the Ground Forces before being elevated to the position of Deputy Commander-in-Chief earlier this year.
Al-Darsi is considered one of the LNA’s most experienced and influential field commanders. He previously led key military operations in Ajdabiya and the Oil Crescent in 2016, as well as serving as the head of the Sirte Operations Room. His track record of leadership in strategic regions of eastern Libya has positioned him as a trusted figure within the LNA’s upper command.
The appointment comes as part of a broader wave of changes initiated by Field Marshal Haftar in recent months aimed at consolidating command efficiency and reinforcing the institutional hierarchy of the Libyan National Army.
These moves include the appointment of Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar as Chief of the General Staff and the realignment of operational commands to improve coordination among military zones.
On Tuesday, Major General Al-Darsi attended a high-level meeting in Benghazi chaired by Deputy Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, along with Chief of Operations Major General Abdullah Al-Hamali and senior regional commanders. The meeting focused on enhancing coordination, operational readiness, and implementation of the LNA’s ongoing structural reforms.
