The family of Libya’s former leader Muammar Gaddafi has commented on the latest developments in the investigation into the killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, after authorities announced progress in identifying suspects linked to the attack.

In an official statement, the family said the announcement by the Attorney General’s Office represents an initial step toward uncovering the truth behind the assassination. However, it stressed that the findings must be followed by clear legal action against those named in the investigation to ensure that no individuals involved escape accountability.

The Libyan prosecutor’s office earlier confirmed that investigators had identified three suspects believed to be connected to the killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi. The announcement followed a series of investigative steps carried out by the prosecution after the attack that took place in early February.

According to the statement, investigators were able to determine the location where the suspects reportedly met prior to the incident, as well as the timing of their movement toward the crime scene. Authorities also identified three individuals believed to have taken part in the operation.

The prosecution said arrest warrants have been issued for the suspects, although officials did not disclose their identities or nationalities. Authorities said further details remain confidential as the investigation continues.

Preliminary findings indicate that the attackers allegedly monitored Saif al-Islam Gaddafi at his residence before storming the property and opening fire with automatic weapons, resulting in his death.

The assassination occurred in the western Libyan city of Zintan, where gunmen reportedly broke into his residence and carried out the attack.

In its statement, the Gaddafi family said identifying the direct perpetrators is not enough and called for a comprehensive investigation to reveal all those involved in planning, facilitating, or covering up the crime.

The family also stressed that the case has become a matter of national public interest and requires the highest level of transparency from authorities.

It concluded by reaffirming its commitment to pursuing legal accountability until justice is achieved.
