Libya & Chad Launch Joint Border Force

Libya’s Military Media Division has announced the formation of a joint force between the Libyan National Army (LNA) and the Chadian Army as part of expanded security cooperation aimed at securing the shared border and combating criminal groups active in the region.

According to the statement, the new force was established under the directives of Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the LNA. The mission has been assigned to the LNA’s General Staff of Ground Forces, the Border Guard Administration, and the desert patrol units of the Subul Al-Salam Battalion, which will begin field operations immediately.

The joint deployment focuses on tightening control over remote border areas that have long been exploited by trafficking networks, armed smugglers, and outlaw groups moving between the Sahel and southern Libya. Both countries view the initiative as an essential step to stabilize the frontier, curb illicit activities, and prevent security threats that undermine the safety of border communities.

The cooperation marks a renewed push by Libya and Chad to strengthen coordination on counter-smuggling operations, surveillance, and rapid-response patrols across one of the region’s most challenging desert corridors.
